Featured and good topics in Wikipedia

This star symbolizes the featured topic candidates on Wikipedia.

A featured topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles).

A good topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic.

This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the good and featured topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. If you would like to ask any questions about your topic and the featured topic process before submitting it, visit Wikipedia talk:Featured topic candidates.

Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Featured topic questions. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly.

The featured topic director, GamerPro64, or his delegate Juhachi, determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived.

You may want to check previous archived nominations first:

Nomination procedure[edit]

To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button.

Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic, and to create appropriate books (see Book:Jupiter for a good example). For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Nomination procedure.

Supporting and objecting[edit]

Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination. Following the creation of the book, Cyberbot I will create a book report (see example) containing details about cleanup issues (only those that have been flagged with cleanup templates, so it may not pick up everything), and various tools to inspect external links or resolve disambiguation pages. It can be a good idea to check the report and inspect links to see if certain articles need some cleanup (doing this before the nomination is even better).

  • To edit nominations in order to comment on them, you must click the "edit" link to the right of the article nomination on which you wish to comment (not the overall page's "edit this page" link).
  • If you approve of a nomination, write '''Support''' followed by your reasons.
  • If you oppose a nomination, write '''Oppose''' or '''Object''' followed by the reason for your objection. Each objection must provide a specific rationale that can be addressed. If nothing can be done in principle to fix the source of the objection, the objection may be ignored.
    • To withdraw an objection, strike it out (with <s>...</s>) rather than removing it.

For a topic to be promoted to featured topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate.

This is another good topic on obscure old warships. These were built by the chronically cash-strapped Ottoman Empire in the 1860s and 1880s, they spent almost no time at sea for the duration of their existences (apart from playing a minor role in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878, where one of them was blown up by Russian artillery), and thoroughly decrepit by the early 1900s, the Ottomans used the possibility of large weapons orders from Germany and Italy to get several of the ships rebuilt into vessels that resembled warships (in one case, literally "resembling" - Mesudiye was fitted with dummy wooden guns instead of the intended 9-inch guns). Thanks to all who take the time to review the topic. Parsecboy (talk) 20:20, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

The above good topic comprises the ironclads built by the Austrian and then Austro-Hungarian navies from the 1860s to the 1880s. Though it was decidedly second rate compared to other major European navies, the Austro-Hungarians assembled a powerful fleet of ironclads during the period and used it to defeat the numerically superior Italian fleet at the Battle of Lissa in 1866. This project was a joint effort; Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs) wrote the first few articles in the series (on the Drache class), I wrote the rest, and White Shadows (talk · contribs) came back from an extended wikibreak to help finish the main list, and we may take some of these articles to FA eventually - we'll see if we can turn it into an FT eventually. Thanks to those who take the time to review the topic. Parsecboy (talk) 19:57, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

This seems comprehensive, and includes all the relevant classes and individual ships. A couple of queries on the topic box though. Shouldn't SMS Juan de Austria be SMS Don Juan d'Austria? And I suggest putting 1862 and 1875 after the Kaiser Max classes for clarity. When I first looked at it I thought it was a duplication until I remembered the supposed recycling. Also, the link for the second SMS Don Juan d'Austria goes to the list page rather than the 1875 ship page. Otherwise, looking good. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:27, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

Washington State Route 24[edit]

Washington State Route 24 is a state highway in the south-central region of Washington in the United States. It connects Yakima to Othello and has three child routes that continue on to the Yakima River Valley, the Tri-Cities region, and Vantage.

All of the "child" highways associated with State Route 24 have been brought up to Good article status. All four articles were written recently with a consistent format. The four highways make up a fairly large portion of the highway system between Yakima, Vantage, and the Tri-Cities in south-central Washington state. This GT is based on an existing one, Washington State Route 22, and several other highway GTs. --SounderBruce 17:43, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

This proposed topic covers the entire first season of the popular science fiction programme Doctor Who, including the season article itself. I started working on these in February, when I began collecting Doctor Who: The Complete History; at the time, all articles were C-class (excluding one B-class article). I finished working on the final serial article in June, and took a short break before finalising the season article last month. We now have nine GAs, and I believe the topic effectively meets the criteria. Very special thanks to the editors who reviewed the GA nominations—@Aoba47, Auldhouse, Argento Surfer, Figureskatingfan, and Adamstom.97—and of course to all the editors who worked on the articles before me. --– Rhain 23:57, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

@Aoba47, Paparazzzi, and Hawkeye7: thanks for all the support, you guys! I'm wondering if this nomination will take much longer, though? The support for it is unanimous thus far. Is there a holdup for some reason that I'm not seeing here? Pericles of AthensTalk 05:11, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
You have to wait for the coordinator, GamerPro64 or his delegate, Juhachi to decide to promote. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 05:56, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
